Duke’s, On the Sand at the Outrigger Waikiki, 2335 Kalakaua Ave., Suite 116, Honolulu
http://www.dukeswaikiki.com/ Entree: $15-30 (restaurant), $ 10-15 (bar) Open air bar and restaurant at Waikiki’s Royal Moana Beach. The Duke’s belongs to a chain with several awesome locations split over the islands and also California with great food and reasonable priced drinks. Visiting the branch in Waikiki, I recommend to stay at the Barefoot Bar since the prices are lower and you sit right next to the beach. |
Lulu’s, 2586 Kalakaua Ave, Honolulu
http://www.luluswaikiki.com/ Entrée: $10 – 25. Hawaiian-American fusion. Open air dining room in a retro surf atmosphere with ocean views towards Waikiki Beach. Don’t miss the Happy Hour (daily 3-5pm) since the Mai Tais are great and just $5. |

http://www.halekulani.com/dining/house%5Fwithout%5Fa%5Fkey/ Small plates: $10-20, large plates: $15-30; Asian-American cuisine. Although located in a top establishment in Waikiki, the in and outdoor restaurant is affordable and gives you a reason to enter the luxury of Halekulani hotel. Each night the dinner is accompanied by live music with a hula dancer. |
Shorebird Grill, 2169 Kalia Road, Honolulu @ The Outrigger Reef Hotel
http://www.shorebirdwaikiki.com/ Entrée: $15-25. Similar to a Korean BBQ you order your meat raw and prepare it yourself on a large community grill. But this is by far the only place located directly at the beach that I know giving you the full outdoor experience. |
Sansei, 419 South St, Honolulu, Oahu
http://www.sanseihawaii.com/ Entrée: $10-30, Japanese cuisine. Creative, very delicious, and fresh Japanese fare. Sansei has several branches on the islands and also offers a Happy Hour on Sun and Mon from 5-6pm with Sushi and other food 25-50% off (depending on the location). If you love Japanese cuisine you better don’t miss this restaurant. |
Grass Skirt Girl, 66-214 Kamehameha Hwy, Haleiwa
http://www.restauranteur.com/grassskirt/ $5-12, Hawaiian, American. Inexpensive, local favorite that also allows bringing your own drinks since they do not have an alcohol concession. The place is very casual and small so do not expect more than a nice laidback place with paper plates. |
Shark’s Cove Grill, 59 Kamehameha Hwy, Haleiwa
http://www.sharkscovegrill.com/ $ 5- 10, Hawaiian plate lunch and burger. Awesome little outdoor shack on the opposite of Shark’s Cove with local food for little money. Coming here for dinner you will experience a wonderful sunset. |
Giovanni’s Shrimp Truck, 56-505 Kamehameha Highway, Kahuku
http://www.giovannisshrimptruck.com/ Shrimps Plate: $13. Within Kahuku you will find several Shrimp Trucks serving giant plates like Giovanni. But none of them is as good as this one. One plate actually serves two people, a smart move, since they are so garlicky that you better don’t eat them alone, except you want to be lonesome. |
